I spotted these old signals used in power distribution in Gurnee, IL from the parking lot of a restaurant across the street. This is the east end of the circuit. Note the details: double crossarms to dead-end the wires, and the Y-shaped splice in the neutral conductor to keep it centered.

When I went back to take the pictures, one of the homeowners served by that circuit told me he was living in a house ordered from the Sears, Roebuck catalog in the 20s.

For those who know Gurnee, the area is in a block bounded by Grand Avenue, Milwaukee Avenue, South Road, and Rogers. The line runs west-to-east behind the houses along South Road.
