In this photo from 1960, we see a toll line (phone) running along the far side of the highway, power running on the close side, railroad communications on the close side of the tracks, and on the very far right corner you can make out a "farmer line" (phone) that was made up of anything and everything, with most poles being tall posts wired alongside regular fence posts.
