These are two CD 145 insulators with a Star on the front skirt. The insulator on the left is a CD 145 in a olive-yellow-green with lots of bubbles and potstones. The insulator on the right is a CD 145 Star in a very deep yellow - emerald green again with bubbles and potstones in the glass. Both were found on a railway telegraph line which ran West out of Griffin, GA. This was the most common mould style although there were insulators with had larger and smaller "Star" and varied in the placement of the "Star". You will note that the olive-yellow insulator on the left has a smaller "Star" with a lower placement than the insulator on the right with has a larger "Star" with higher placement on the skirt. The insulator on the left has the "Star" placed 3.0 cm from the point of the "Star" to the ridge of the lower wire groove. The insulator on the right has the "Star" exactly 2.6 cm from the point of the "Star" to the ridge of the lower wire groove. The "green" colors were excellent traders and I probably traded somewhere from 30 to 40 into the hobby. This was hard work as I replaced every CD 145 Star I took off the line with a Hemingray 43 or 45. |
