This photo taken around 1894 shows an arc lamp trimmer replacing the rods in a Fort Wayne Electric dual carbon open arc lamp. The lamp had to be serviced every other day to keep it lit each night. The lamp was lowered to the street for servicing by a system of pulleys and rope with a counterweight on the other end. The big cone shaped hood over the lamp served as a rain shield for the lamp and mechanism. |
