I had a friend give me this pic of a recent find. I parroted what I have been told in the hobby that the hobby an ovoid shape above and below the wire groove is considered to be a lightening strike. I wondered how we know that from fact and not theory...or do we? It may seem to make sense, but was the standard response I have heard over the years based upon theory or not? Personally I cannot see a direct hit doing anything but totally annihilating one glass insulator, but what about those further down the line that was hit? Do they look like this? Is that how this happens? Has anyone ever found a string of these on a line?
