This unique piece, manufactured by Porzellan-Industrie-AG Berghaus, was produced during WWII and was quite an ingenious way to consolidate metal for the war effort and make an insulator bracket and insulator together in one piece. The Nazi era patent dates to April 17, 1940 and this is one of three styles made by AG Berghaus according to catalog records. One style has not yet been reported.

This insulator is marked on on side of the top wire groove and is very near mint in my opinion. There is the tiniest amount of glaze flaking on one small side of the base firing rest. Patent number/date and U# have been written with Sharpie on the rear glazed surface of the insulator and can easily be removed with alcohol.

This piece originally came to the hobby's attention in the Dec. 1994 issue of Crown Jewels of the Wire and is the 2nd one I've owned in 25 years. I doubt there are more than a handful in collections in the US.
