This very historic early insulator was recovered decades ago from a transformer house at the end of the famous Baltic-Taft transmission liner built in 1894. The line used glass TH 9200 insulators for the main transmission pole line and GE U-701's inside the powerhouse and sub stations. The insulator is in excellent condition with only one very small glaze flake in the conductor groove and some staining in the glaze where factory expansion flaws in the ceramic body are present which is typical of most of these insulators.. This piece has no other damage and I would consider it in far above average condition as most U-701 examples I have seen have some amount of significant damage. asking $350 + actual postage ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Note: I am managing the sale of Carver Mead and Barbara Smith's porcelain insulator collection. This unit is from their personal collection.
