I just found this you-pick-up insulator lot on Facebook Marketplace that I really wanted, but it was a 3-hour, one-way drive away that had to be done on Thursday before a major holiday weekend. Did I have extra time in my day to drive 6 hours? NO, because I am still getting ready to get ready to go to the National. I do however, have a collecting friend who lives 15 minutes away from the meet-up, who paid for the insulators, picked them up and I will see him and the insulators at the National next week. "Just a flukey accident, right?" Not really.... I have accomplished these feats with the generous help of other like-minded collectors across the country: Midwest, East Coast, Florida, Southwest. It doesn't matter, as my hobby outreach has expanded far beyond what I dreamt it could be. It starts with wanting to establish the human connection with a more intimate nationwide collecting community of probably not more than 1,200 collectors called ICON (Insulator Collectors on the Net)-- gettting to know persons, taking an interest in their lives, creating friendships, visiting them on out-of-state vacations and meeting them at shows with nationwide reach (National Convention, Springfield), and most of all serving their needs and interests before you worry about your own. Thanks again for your friendships. I just don't think you can duplicate this type of network/community of hobby friends elsewhere.
