Came across this unique piece. It's an insulator MADE OF METAL!!!! Well sort of. This is a neutral wire bracket insulator. I have seen similar designs in catalogs but this one actually screws onto a 1" American threaded pin. It is stamped with a 1 and has a label 1708. I'm thinking it could be A.B. Chance Co. although I have catalog pages from Joslyn Mfg. Co. and Line Material Co. showing them with a bracket. I found one patent US 2,018,532 Oct 22, 1935 but it is for the spool neutral bracket. These were used to support a nuetral wire dropping down from a pole. I'm assuming they were short lived because you could use a secondary rack spool or even a pin typoe insulator to do the same thing. It is basically a crown of an insulator that threades on a pin. Although most I've seen in catalogs have a molded bracket on them to screw into the side of a pole. This is only the second piece I've ever seen. One bracket style I saw for sale a few years back but wasn't able to aquire it. If anybody has any of these or pictures of them in use I'd love to see them. Can you say Heavy Metal what do I want. |
