This bizarre lattice construction south of Lubomierz/Poland was build around 1920 during the beginning of electrification in Germany. People were sceptical about dangers from electricity, so any road or railroad crossing required a construction to protect people and vehicles from being electrocuted from falling cables. Other european countries like Sweden or Italy used similar lattice constructions once. This tower belonged to a former single-phase AC 80 kV traction power line in Lower Silesia. After 1945 it became part of a 110 kV three-phase power line of the polish power grid. In Germany all of these constructions were removed decades ago, but in Poland (especially around Walbrzych and Jelenia Gora) roughly half a dozen still remain.
