On my way into town I realized I forgot my phone. While returning home I noticed a utility company erecting a pole that appeared to have an unused pin at the top. Upon arriving back home I took a gamble and along with my phone, grabbed a couple glass insulators and placed them into my trunk. On my way back into town I swung my car alongside the utility workers and a supervisor immediately walked up and asked "Can I help you?". I told him I was an insulator collector and asked him if he could possibly place an old glass insulator on the unused pin atop the pole for "old time's sake!". Much to my surprise he reacted positively and said "SURE!". He seemed to appreciate the fact I collected insulators and we briefly chatted about the hobby. I popped open my trunk, removed a purple Cal 161 and a dark emerald green McLaughlin 164 for him to choose from. He chose the McLaughlin possibly because the darker color would be less conspicuous on the pole. Nobody was on the pole at that moment so I decided to leave, never really expecting my insulator would actually be placed atop that pole. Two hours later on my return home I took a glance at that pole. All the workers were gone, but much to my surprise the McLaughlin 164 insulator was sitting high atop it in all its glory! I took a photo with my phone and realized at that very moment that this special insulator will be there long after I'm gone. To the best of my knowledge, this is the ONLY glass insulator atop a pole in my entire city! I hope to get a better close-up photo of it soon and will post it here. |
