A boring Ol' brick substation, or so you thought. The City of Jacksonville Electric Department constructed a 4Kv brick substation to power Jacksonville's growing populace.

Built in the early 1920's. The roof originally had higher voltage electrical switchgear that served the Ortega street car line, that equipment was later removed between 1929 and 1939. The outside insulator bushings on the east facing side of the structure are a product made by Locke Insulator company around 1920-1929. The bushings at the south facing side of the structure are made by either GPCO or Locke Insulator Company given the glaze characteristics.

With all of the necessary PPE on, it's time to step inside this century old brick building outside of Avondale, Jacksonville Florida
