I'm sad to report the passing of Zane Hendrix from Easley, SC. Zane was a member of the Dixie Jewels insulator club for many years. He hosted at least two or three swaps at his house a few years ago. He was also a lineman for AT&T and went insulator hunting with me in the past. I was amazed at how well he could still climb poles in his sixties back then. He climbed and took down many insulators one day when we went hunting. We had a great time. He was also a door gunner in the Vietnam war. He was truly a great guy all around. From his obituary… A patriot at heart, Zane was honored to serve his country with nine years of military service. He served in the Army in South Korea and continued his service in the Air Force as a Crew Chief and Door Gunner for two tours in Vietnam. He continued his Air Force career in Texas training pilots to work with door gunners. He ended his service with the South Carolina National Guard at Donaldson Center in a communications division. He earned numerous awards during his time in the military. Professionally Zane was a respected Facility Technician with AT&T for 44 years. His work ethic and commitment were evident to all who worked alongside him. He volunteered to work on out of town crews to restore service in areas where there had been serious storms. Zane's colleagues will remember him not only for his professional contributions but also the camaraderie and support he provided. |
