Here's a hefty Canadian telephone/telegraph style that saw limited use in a few areas of the country and remains kind of tough to track down. I call it a toll as it's approximately the right size for one, but as far as I understand these were used in both telephone and telegraph applications, but I've never heard any stories about large numbers of them being found anywhere. They seem to just turn up periodically, here or there. Most I've encountered have come from the prairies - mainly Manitoba. These have all the hallmarks of a European-made piece of porcelain, with fine spark plug quality porcelain, an unglazed pinhole, and small incused letter shop marks, usually on the crown in the case of this style. This one has a "T" on the dome, though I've seen other letters in the past including "Z" and "U" off the top of my head. This one has a bit of extra glaze character in the form of some fine black specks embedded in the glaze on one side. I haven't seen this on other examples so it's an interesting oddity.

This example is in excellent condition with just one small fisheye about 3 mm wide on the upper wire groove on one side. It's better than most.

I'm now asking $40 USD plus actual shipping cost for this piece. I'm always happy to trade for early Canadian glass or Canadian-made porcelain insulators. I have a long-standing want list of Canadian-made porcelain posted, [id=505519866; please click here to see it]. I accept PayPal, or personal cheque from any member of ICON or any collector with whom I have dealt before. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or for more photos, and look through my other items or unsold sales stock to combine shipping on items.
