Here's a pair of a style that is often found here in Ontario. Bell used a pile of these U-47 exchanges and their U-1192 Canadian twins all across Ontario. I've posted about them here before. These PPINC ones are among the more common markings. This pair includes a common P.P.INC. embossed example at right as more or less a freebie. The real prize in this pair is the apparently rare error marking shown at left. This piece reads "P.INC.P." on the dome top - apparently the result of someone who wasn't feeling up to engraving or stamping the mold properly. They even went through the trouble of adding the periods in the correct spot. I can safely say I've looked through hundreds or maybe even thousands of these exchanges in search of this error as I've check every single one I've seen since learning of this error. It wasn't until somewhat recently that I finally encountered a few. The example shown at left was found at a junk shop in eastern Ontario this spring. The P.INC.P. at left is in good condition apart from one small flake on the uppermost wire ridge in the front. The other flakes visible in the photos all appear to be glazed over. The embossing is nice and strong on this one which is a real treat as these tend to be kind of poorly marked. It has some red rusty wire rubs as shown and a bit of discolouration on the rear skirt. The P.P.INC. embossed example at right, as mentioned, is pretty common so it's just here as a freebie to go with the other. It has a couple of the same reddish wire rubs in the front, and a tight possible factory (?) hairline crack on the inside of the skirt on the left side. This crack doesn't seem to extend to the outer side of the skirt, though there is a greyish discolouration visible there. Maybe this was the product of a flashover or something? In any case the piece is in fair condition. I'm asking $100 USD plus actual shipping cost for this scarce (rare?) marking variation and it's common twin. I'm always happy to trade for early Canadian glass or Canadian-made porcelain insulators. I have a long-standing want list of Canadian-made porcelain posted, [id=505519866; please click here to see it]. I accept PayPal, or personal cheque from any member of ICON or any collector with whom I have dealt before. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or for more photos, and look through my other items or unsold sales stock to combine shipping on items. |
