At the recent Tama swapmeet I bought a San Francisco wood cable in original condition. It came mounted on a wood side pin with unusually large holes. The seller advised it was on the pin when he purchased it in a collection. I added a few different angles to show the pin and insulator separately. Does anyone who's familiar with the original SFtrolley line construction know if this type of wood side pin was used? In Fred Padgett's book Wood Amongst the Wires, the photos show wooden cables mounted on metal pins, which makes me wonder if the pin I have is a later addition and not original, or maybe some areas of SF had wood side pins as original construction. Thanks! |
