I found this neat strain insulator and was amazed at the color. It is full of pepper specks and has a tan metallic glaze. There is no manufacturers markings but used a sand rest, that didn't work to well, on the bottom. The unique thing I noticed on it was the way the groved fin holes were made that was different than most strains from other companies with that style. Instead of just going straight along the wire hole it curves around and gets narower at the other end. I found a patent that shows a similar design but not straight like my piece. It called for the ribs to be angled for drainage. Perhaps they used this as a way to get a patent and abandoned it when they made the insulator. It would be neat to find one that way though. The patent was USD 52,139 issued to J.H. Kendig in 1918. It measures 2 3/4X4 1/4. |
