I was looking through some of the old Abstract of Title paperwork related to one of our properties in Colorado Springs and came across an interesting paragraph relating to an right of way easement granted to The Colorado Telephone Company dated June 23rd 1911. Information for the Company is very limited, so to see it related to our property the year it ceased to operate under its "then current" name is pretty cool. Now the scarce sign has an even more special meaning for me. A little history. In January 1881, a group of Denver business leaders joined together to form the Colorado Telephone Company. Henry Wolcott was the president of Colorado Telephone Company and immediately began to grow it, as "boomer linemen" were dispatched to place poles and string wire to ranches and farm towns in the flat lands, and to mines and mining towns in the mountains, and along Colorado's front range (including Colorado Springs). This all ended for the company in 1911 when Colorado Telephone, Tri-State Telephone, and Rocky Mountain Bell merged to form The Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Company.
