These were used on the catenary at the Hoosac Tunnel located in North Adams, Massachusetts when they electrified it in 1911 to make the atmosphere in the tunnel clean from smokey trains. They are listed in the Ohio-Brass Company catalog No 2 - 1912, see Pic #2. The one pictured is at the museum near the tunnel. Pic #3 is an old picture of them in use.
