Most collectors have encountered the smooth base Diamond D CD 154s with a C.N.R. blotout, but less well known is this threaded inner skirt version, EIN [045]. This mold style is unusual among Canadian CD 154s, with an extra wide skirt, inner skirt threading to the base, and unusually large and prominent Diamond D embossing on both sides. This example has a blotout of the large letters C.N.R. behind the Diamond D on one side. While I don't seem to be able to capture this blotout very well in a photograph, it's certainly obvious when the piece is viewed in person. This example is a rich peach colour, as this mold style is typically found in. A collector once shared showed me some documents that had been submitted to Whitall Tatum, which detailed specifications for a CNR-marked version of the CD 154 style. The WT documents clearly call for this threading on the inside of the inner skirt, and the "letters CNR to be molded onto glass". While WT allegedly replied to the request indicating that it wouldn't be cost feasible for them to produce the threaded inner skirt version of this style in any number, Dominion Glass obviously found a way given that these exist. What's interesting is that this C.N.R. blot out version exists, suggesting that Dominion may have also made some C.N.R. embossed versions of this threaded inner skirt 154 before removing the engraved letters from the mold. Food for thought. Anyways, this example is in fantastic condition with only some minor outer base edge roughness and a couple scattered pin pricks here and there. I'm asking $45 USD plus shipping for this scarce CNR blotout variation. I'm always happy to trade for early Canadian glass or Canadian-made porcelain insulators. I have a long-standing want list of Canadian-made porcelain posted, [id=505519866; please click here to see it]. I accept PayPal, or personal cheque from any member of ICON or any collector with whom I have dealt before. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or for more photos, and look through my other items or unsold sales stock to combine shipping on items. |
