These "Dino Egg" U-1132s are a prize in Canada. They're old pieces with a lot of history, likely dating back to the same mid-1880s era as the similarly-shaped G.N.W. CD 143s. For whatever reason these don't seem to turn up often, and when they do they're very prone to damage. If you're lucky enough to dig one up or stumble across one, you're likely to love it for its character, glaze colour, and for the wide variety of trimming variations you could find in it. Truly no two of these things are ever alike from my experience. At left is a darker-glazed example with some original soot and what appears to be some splatter of house paint. This one has a bit of a higher groove than most. Its condition is pretty typical for one of these, with 3 flat base flakes as shown. The largest is 4.2 cm long, and the smallest is really more of a small outer base edge flake measuring less than 1 cm long. I'm asking $35 USD plus shipping for this one. At right is a shorter, lighter glazed example. This one has some pronounced mottling in the glaze and is VNM with just a tiny spot of missing glaze on the dome top that reveals a bit of the grey-coloured stoneware beneath. I wouldn't really describe this as "damage" as it looks to be more of a factory defect. I'm asking $100 USD plus shipping for this example. I'd be willing to offer the pair for $120 USD plus shipping. I'm always happy to trade for early Canadian glass or Canadian-made porcelain insulators. I have a long-standing want list of Canadian-made porcelain posted, [id=505519866; please click here to see it]. I accept PayPal, or personal cheque from any member of ICON or any collector with whom I have dealt before. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or for more photos, and look through my other items or unsold sales stock to combine shipping on items. |
