Electric Utility Linemen Performing Hot Line Work on Early Transmission Pole, c.1915

Either or both of these three-phase circuits were live when this photo was taken (location unknown). Voltage probably around 7kv or so. The standoff gear you see kept the hot conductors away from the linemen while performing assigned work (possibly this was a pole changeover, crossarm replacement, running new wire, etc.). Keeping these circuits live was indeed dangerous work! Sometimes the load from one was transferred to the other circuit with the one assigned temporarily dead and grounded.
