This was along a mainline that headed south from Boston, MA. This was a vital telegraph route owned by Western Union and was kept in very good condition. The wires were number 8 solid copper (like many other Western Union routes here in the northeast USA) installed in the 1910s when inefficient, rusty iron line wire was replaced along with most poles and crossarms. All insulators used here and elsewhere in this region were of the Western Union standard designs (notably CD 145, 152, 154 and 155). When this line was removed from service during 1967-69 only these common styles were found.

Canton is a community about 10 miles south of Boston.
