This sight was fairly commonplace in some southeastern MA cities and towns until the middle 1960s. Remaining openwire subscriber leads were upgraded to paired cable in most areas by 1970. It sure was fun going through our local telephone company's piles of insulators during this process! The crossarms were deeply saturated creosoted pine, worthy of lasting at least several generations! Lots of them were reclaimed for building fences, barns, for structural supports, etc. Most of the wire I recall was galvanized steel and the insulators I recovered generally were CD 115s, 121s, 122s, 154s and 203s of common varieties.
