1875 Baldwins

It's not every day you see two 1875 Baldwin narrow gauge wood burners out and roaming the mainline. In fact, it hasn't happened for at least decades, if not probably more like a century. Last summer about this time, Dan Markoff's Eureka & Palisades #4 and the Nevada State Railroad Museum's Glenbrook got the chance to stretch their legs pulling small freight trains for photographers on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic in southern Colorado / northern New Mexico.

Here they stop at the top of Cumbres Pass after an evening rain storm to set up the retainers as they prepare to head downhill into Chama.
