Here's a rare piece: A No Name CD 291 triple petticoat glass cable style embossed only "No. 5" that was likely made by Hemingray. These seem to have been used in the Cincinatti, OH or Covington, KY area. A bottle digger-turned-insulator collector was fortunate enough to find a dump site with a number of examples of this rare style several years ago, and since then these have been a little bit more available for collectors. This example, like most found, has some substantial damage but it has been repaired and looks good overall. A large arc fracture extended from below and to the right of the "5" embossing, and around the left side of the insulator into the rear skirt. A smaller arc fracture below this one is about 2" long and extends from just behind the left mold line into the front skirt. There is an arc bruise on the rear outer base edge that measures just over 1" long by 3/8" tall. Lastly, A flat flake just over 1/4" wide by 3/8" tall sits below the "N" embossed on the front skirt. Both of the larger arc fractures have been repaired and look relatively good. The piece displays well from the right mold line looking down the saddle groove, as shown. Unlike with many of these, there are no large chips around the outer skirt or on the tops of the ears. I'm asking $475 USD plus shipping for this scarce style. These seem to be quite a bit less common than the SDP Hemingray-embossed units, even after the discovery a few years back. I'm always happy to trade for early Canadian glass or Canadian-made porcelain insulators. I accept PayPal, or personal cheque from any member of ICON or any collector with whom I have dealt before. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or for more photos, and look through my other items or unsold sales stock to combine shipping on items. |
