The wires on the second crossarm down terminated in each direction on two-pin iron brackets with insulators on them. From there each pair of wires led to the railroad station's telegrapher's office within the station for sending messages. Often such installations had power supplies to maintain sufficient voltage for each of the telegraph lines.
