Hingham is a coastal town about 15 miles south of Boston. It was a strategic location during World War I and 2 for military training bases, shipbuilding, weapons storage, etc. Some of these locations were connected to the town municipal light plant distribution lines; others (much larger facilities) were served by a neighboring privately-owned utility (the Weymouth Light and Power Company) who had the generation facilities to provide adequate current to these industrial-size users. Shown are Hingham Light Department linemen completing a three-phase transformer bank serving the Fort Hill Naval Training Reservation. |
