The business block on the left was just finished when this photo was taken. Unfortunately it burned to the ground in early 1988. Its replacement was an exact replica with its completion in the early 1990s. The overhead utility lines you see remained in place until 1950 when all were installed underground. Hingham is a very historic Massachusetts community, founded in 1635. Retaining its colonial charm is evident and a priority throughout this south-of-Boston suburb. Keeping and installing utility lines beneath the town's roadways and utilizing historically-attractive street lights above them has always been a priority by the town.
