This was a very common sight through the 1960s until the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company converted subscriber openwire to enclosed paired cable. NET&T Co. also offered cable television service in most Cape Cod communities since over-the-air television reception was rather poor from Boston, Providence and other areas. NET&T cable television was accomplished via innovated Western Electric and Bell System coaxial cable that led to customers. The earliest premium channels (I think HBO) were also offered. Customers' levels of service were filtered at the pole with specifically-colored filter-traps for each drop; thus, easily checked from the ground.
