Externally-wired street lights like this one are pretty common throughout the Los Angeles area. This compares to the typical method of installing the street lamp's wire through its fixture pipe, as used and employed almost exclusively elsewhere in the United States. Usually a porcelain standoff insulator is used for installations like this one. Pintypes are for this purpose are somewhat uncommon and typically employ brown porcelain ones. This image is a really nice sight to see with the old openwire secondaries on the adjacent crossarm. And the light gray guy strain insulators used to electrically isolate this transformer's circuit from the next one down the road are pretty cool too! The fixture is a GE from the 1970s-early 1980s. Photo taken last year.
