This dusty gem was on one of the utility's local electric distribution crossarms, in company with many cabletop porcelain insulators as well as a few glass signals. So, here we see an elusive Pluto insulator sitting a tad dirty but sure looking pretty on one of the city's crossarms at 3860 Olive. I called upon the assistance of a well-known collector from the Saint Louis area to go and see if it is still there. Unfortunately it's long gone as well as the pole, etc., as one can easily and correctly assume. Pluto insulators have been found in a couple very rare instances as house drop deadends, etc., in STL. A great many of them were used on the Merchant Street Bridge, see: [id=387849020]. Those also were removed from service decades ago and it's anyone's guess where they were dumped. There is speculation that these originally were sold as surplus after the Chicago World's Fair facilities and electrical lines were decommissioned.
