Okay, here's the grand poobah of my offerings today. Rarely found in this condition is a VNM Blue MULFORD & BIDDLE threadless hat! Color discussion first. All these blues are thrown into the general category of "cobalt blue." There are cobalt and ink blue Mulfords, but this is a much rarer color that I want to call teal blue or midnight blue, but it's a chameleon. I have included photos from my 5000K light box with a 92 CRI that makes it look more teal blue, and I've included a photo in natural light which makes it look even more blue. Whatever color you call it, this is a genuinely rare insulator. Condition is incredible for such an old timer. I see a flea bite on the edge of the dome in front and a flea bite above the embossing in front, a couple tiny flakes on the rear wire ridge, a flat 3/4" flake on the base and nibbling around the base edge, mostly on the rear. There's a lengthy thin string of milky amber that snakes it's way horizontally from above the thread cavity into the skirt above the embossing where it terminates laterally. There's several nice bubbles as well. Look at how this displays from the front! This insulator also comes with a note that it was dug in the early 1970's in Wyoming, along the old UPRR. What a great historical artifact from when railroads just first began to span our continent! Far more rare than the richer blues, if you're into railroad history or just building a color lineup of threadless hats in your insulator collection, don't pass up the opportunity to purchase this piece. Could be a looong time before one like it is offered again, and you will likely have to pay a buyer's premium as well. I'm offering this today at $2,750 shipped. More photos to come. |
