I am not sure what any of the insulators in this image are. It is quite possible they were composite insulators of the "signal" style and if so, they were all-around a bit beefier than their porcelain and glass counterparts. The lighter gauge wires that are hanging cut might have been used at one time for the transit system's private-line communications.
