An unpretentious depiction of a pole with glass on it, by a hard working and amazing self taught artist, has made it to the A list, who'da thunk it? I've been going to the Saint Louis Art Museum since I was about, oh 2...my mother used to work there. I'd never seen this piece before. Has a pole with glass on it ever ended up in a painting that was acquired by a world class art museum? My money would be on yes actually, maybe even multiple times. But has a pole with glass on it ever been so unambiguously front and center as the star of the show, as it is here? Probably not. This painting is unique, one of a kind.
