This fixture style was manufactured by GE, Westinghouse, Pemco and several other prominent street lighting equipment manufacturers from the 1920s through the 1940s. They utilized incandescent lightbulbs of a higher light output for adequate illumination of city and town business districts, highly travelled and busy streets, etc. Their scroll brackets usually were made of wrought iron. The fixture in this photo was made by Westinghouse.

Sterling is a small town in north-central Massachusetts.
