This insulator with several grooves and bracket was used to deadend cloth-covered, rubber-insulated twisted pairs ("cord") to telephone subscribers. In subsequent years phone drop wire was replaced by improved paired types and these white spools were still used. They affixed the copper or alunimum slip-fitting clamps that held the wire in place.
