The latter is now US Route 1. The multiple-crossarm line along the right was a main toll route for AT&T between Boston, MA and Portland, MA. This line ran along some roadway and railroad routes between those two points. Photos of it in other located within this folder. The line was removed in places from the late 1920s through the mid 1930s. It was replaced by lead-sheathed paired cable placed overhead and underground along the way.
