It looked quite barren as we showed up early Saturday morning to pick up our beach things that George and Judy so graciously let us stash in one of their sheds for our annual trek to Lake Tahoe. This was the weekend that this backyard would have been wall to wall collectors, if not for the COVID restrictions in place throughout the U.S.. Even George and Judy decided to take the time and head out to do some camping. Wendy and I already had our airline tickets and hotel reservations, so we decided to make it a long weekend get-away. We've been going to Tahoe for 30 plus years and have seen a lot of changes over those years, yet this year was unlike any other. Very little traffic, no room service, linens left in a plastic bag outside the room each day, very few people in the casinos and most everyone wearing masks. The restaurants and outdoor venues were always full, but half the tables are gone for distancing, and the beaches were crowded from 8am on. When we asked about the beaches being so full, we were told that it was because so many people are still out of work, and going stir crazy being cooped up at home and want to get themselves and the kids into the mountains for a break. It's never not great being in Tahoe, but things were certainly different this year. Hopefully next year will be back to some sense of normality, and George and Judy will welcome all us collectors back to their home once again. I'm heading back to California again in a couple weeks for a quickie visit to the Porterville show with plenty of masks, sanitizer & a few choice pieces of glass for sale or trade. Hope to see many of you there.
