Utility lines on top with a white crossarm beneath with FIRE ALARM in black stenciling. I do not know what the box beneath the latter was for. A span wire incandescent street light illuminated this intersection, now known as the junction of Massachusetts SR 228 and 53. This area also is known as "Queen Anne's Corner" as it has been referred to since the early 1800s. The suspension street light in this photo was replaced during 1950 to a custom mercury vapor one (using the original spanwire and "forestry" insulators to loop the wiring through). For a look at this pole (it is to the right of the "gable roof" granite horse drinking fountain): [id=600390401] |
