The openwire lines leading into the background had individual terminal connections inside the two wooden junction boxes on the pole in the foreground. One is on top of the pole and the other faces you. From each, paired covered cables ran from them (typically to a telegrapher's station). Sometimes bundled cables were used for extending under bridges and other tight spaces where openwire would not be practical.
