Known by collectors as a straight cap, this insulator was the most popular early suspension type before the 10" Ohio Brass flanged cap type was designed in 1916-1917. The straight cap insulators were prone to many failures such as lightning damage due to thin porcelain, mechanical failure of the hook/cap, and cracking or breaking from cement expansion.
