Right above the fixture part (where the two white deadend spools are) a coupling utilizing a pintype glass insulator (commonly a CD 280 but possibly a CD 162 in this photo) connected to the end of the pipe bracket. The fixture part had a cast iron threaded pin as part of the top of it. The insulator prevented dangerous high voltages from energizing the bracket when the series street lighting system experienced an open circuit.
