Here's a rare British Tudor (marked in green ink) porcelain battery rest that was used in Argentina and made in Manchester, UK. It comes with the large 5 1/2" wide porcelain plate and the accompanied porcelain bushing that secured it in place. On the underside of the plate there is a round indentation where the porcelain support bushing rested. These were used on battery accumulators for the Ferrocarril Central Argentino (hence the FCCA incuse marking on the reverse side of the bushing). Likely used as an insulator on battery electricity accumulator rack that had numerous battery jars on it to support Railway telegraph and/or signaling. The railroad was built in 1863 by British capital and operated by the British. It was one of 4 large British railways in the country of Argentina and they nearly always used British insulators at the time. This railway ceased operations in 1948 after the government nationalized it. Possibly connected to the world famous Royal Tudor porcelain company established in 1828 in Stoke-on-Trent, England that made fine china. They had subsidiary companies that sold Tudor accumulators, batteries and insulators established in several European countries including France and Spain. The porcelain bushing is incuse marked "Henley's" and "FCCA" and SK1348 indicating Henley porcelain company. I had trouble finding much info on this company. Ironically, there is a Hanley Porcelain company that was also located in Stoke-on-Trent, England. If they made the bushing then this is an marking error. First email gets this rare pair of Tudor battery rest with the porcelain FCCA bushing for only $225 plus shipping. Apart from some dirt they are in Mint condition! Thanks! |
