Cambridge neighbors with Boston immediately to the north.

Many E.L. Co. insulators were used by the electric utility in Cambridge. I have seen many in service and just about all were light aqua. The rare exceptions had a light greenish tinge to them.

To date it is not known what the insulators' initials stand for. One possibility is the Edwin Lewis Company that existed in Boston as a well-known electrical supply distributor. Another guess is simply "Electric Light Co." perhaps to generically identify electric service wires. The manufacturer of these insulators also is not known. However my best assumption would be Brookfield.

There appears to be four E.L. Co. (style) insulators on this pole. They are on the six-pin crossarm, above the white two-pin one. Click "Next" for a closeup.
