Stamford, CT. New Haven RR Station, Overhead Lines, Old Lattice Structure, Catenary.

Many of these towers with their overhead sections above the tracks are still in service. This section of RR line was constructed around 1910 and to this day is a major commuter rail line connecting to New York City from the north and south. There are some nice old multipart porcelain insulators along this route mounted on some of the most interesting, vintage electrical architecture you probably would ever happen to come see.

In the background is a modern double-circuit high voltage transmission line. It pararells much of the SW Corridor and is one of six electric grid interfaces between Independent Service Operator (ISO) New England and points outside the region. Power is traded on this line at 138kv. Maximum transfer contract limits either way are in the order of about 220 megawatts.
