Here is a photo of the inside top view of the American. All U-188's were basically the same design. The lid screws off to allow access to the wires. Most of these were pre-assembled with the wires in the insulator and a wax type sealant covering the wires and were tied onto when installed. Notice the Square D Co. marking on the top.
