Here's something you don't see every day: a CD 185 [020] JEFFREY SPECIAL MINE INSULATOR mounted on its original hardware. Screwed into the insulator is a split-steel pin that's held in place with a wedge (to spread the two halves)-- then the steel pin is mounted in a large handmade wood pin, which was then jammed into a crack or hole (I suppose). The wood is a bit punky from many years of service in a wet mine. The glass is in good shape for a mine insulator-- talk about a rough environment. The drips are in *MINT CONDITION*, embossing and wire groove are also mint-- the only problems are on the base. Well, it's not clear what's the top and what's the bottom on this one! The base has two small flat shell-shaped flakes about 3/8" wide, the usual roughness around the pinhole where the glass disc was kocked out at the factory (like all 185s), and it was dinged once resulting in a sort of BB bullseye/bruise-- all of which is visible in the photos. I can provide more photos or description if desired-- just ask. $500 postpaid for this unique piece. |
