This fixture is nearly identical to their predecessors that employed carbon arc rods. Upon upgrading to more efficient and longer lasting tungsten-filament bulbs (as was the trend commencing in the teens) all the user had to do is remove the fixture guts that ran the carbon arc and install an incandescent light socket. In addition, mast arms with pulleys (for maintenance) were also retained, as we see here.

Braintree is a town south of Boston with its own municipal light utility and generated its own power for decades.

During the 1970s several CD 134s in medium to dark purple were located on the town's utility lines.
