Telephone openwire continued to exist on Cape Cod until the late 1960s. All phone service on the Cape was provided by the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company. Most remaining openwire was short subscriber runs supported by sidepins and/or a ten-foot crossarm like you see here. Of interest, NET&T offered cable television service for several decades; up through the later 70s I believe. The broadcasting stations were a bit too far for most residential antennae to receive with good reception quality, so this additional service was rather popular, especially with summer tourists. A few premium stations also were offered, such as HBO. The level of a customer's service was determined by connecting the subscriber's coax house drop to the appropriate coaxial ports in a box on the pole.
